It’s My Birthday!

I came across a quote this morning, something along the lines of: ‘I’m happy to report that my inner child is still ageless’. And it made me smile because it’s got my name written all over it! I’d happily have it blown up as a monster-sized, multicoloured poster on my bedroom wall because I can indeed report that my inner child is very much alive and kicking :D.

Not everyone would necessarily agree that that’s such a good thing though. Some insist that I’m too ‘immature’. They tell me that I’ll be in my mid/late twenties before I know it, still bouncing off the walls, being a nonsensical chatterbox, wearing onesies and drinking out of my two year old nephew’s Thomas the Tank Engine cup! They anticipate the day when I’ll suddenly do a complete 360 and become a proper, mature adult.

But truth be told if that day ever came those people would hate it. If I suddenly became serious and stern who would provide the fun factor? Who would wrestle with all the kids, pretend to fall off the bed (multiple times!) and then make chicken nuggets, chips and Oreo milkshakes afterwards? Who would distract everyone and cheer them up during the stressful times? Who would entertain/annoy everybody with ridiculous stories on a boring Sunday afternoon? Nobody. Because that’s my job.

I love being the clown. The one who isn’t afraid to look silly and be the butt of everybody’s jokes. If it brings a smile to their faces I’ll happily do it…CRINGE! But no seriously, it makes them happy and it makes me happy too. As long as I’ve got my head screwed on when it comes to the truly important stuff, why not be silly for the rest of the time? Life’s too short and I honestly don’t know how to behave in any other way! Regardless of how old I may I get I’ll always remain young at heart and that’s just how I like it.

So happy birthday to me and my inner child :D.

  1. What a delightful post written by an obviously delightful lady. Far too many have spent far too long looking for the fountain of youth when it has always been with in each us all along. In my opinion true human beauty is not measured by what is on the outside but rather what is on the inside.

  2. Happy birthday!! There’s only one you – so stay true to who you are – I’m sure everyone loves your inner child secretly anyway 😉

  3. “Young at heart” is good, as long as it is does not pertain to “young and foolish” or nothing is worse than an “old fool.”

You do not appear to me to be either of the latters. Enjoy.

    Regards and good will blogging.
