Dude, I’m An Onion!

I shrug my shoulders and shake my head…what to do?

The only compliments that you give consist of words like “sexy”, or “hot”, or “fit”…cringe!

You’re reducing my appeal purely to the physical when I know that I’m much more than that.

Tell me that you like how I’m witty, or driven, or compassionate,

Don’t just harp on about how you’re captivated by my figure or my eyes.

I’m not a show piece; I’m like an onion dude, I have layers!

Plus so many girls have similar/better features; my looks don’t make me unique.

I get that they’re important, of course they are, and I appreciate the ego boost, I do,

But they shouldn’t be the be all and end all.

Beauty attracts the eye while personality captures the heart, isn’t that what they say?

I want to capture your heart, not just your eye.

And truth be told one day I’ll lose my looks, just like you will, but you know what we won’t lose?

Our characters, our minds, that’s what we need to recognise,

Looks should just be the icing on the cake.

But unfortunately I was born into a generation that doesn’t always see it that way,

I shrug my shoulders and shake my head…what to do?
