When strung together, these seemingly inconsequential six words somehow have the ability to kick people like me into gear and make us feel invincible.
I actually stumbled upon this little gem at the gym, of all places! A manic, pint-sized instructor was guiding us through a HIIT class, which as you can imagine was killing me softly. In between doing a marathon of push ups and burpees, I stepped aside to catch my breath (yup, I am proud to say that a recent addiction to burgers has given me the fitness stamina of a 70 year old chain smoker). At which point the instructor barked in my face, “no stopping, keep going, come on, come on!” So I took a quick swig of my water and reluctantly joined the red-faced group again assuming my squat position.
As she scanned the crowd for slackers, the pungent scent of incompetence that was consuming the room must’ve finally reached her nostrils because she yelled out at the top of her lungs, “Come on ladies, I know you can do this, you’re stronger than you think.”
And it suddenly dawned on me, this little pocket rocket was right, I could do this, I was stronger than I was giving myself credit for. I instantly snapped back into action with a renewed lease of energy and proceeded to smash the remaining 15 minutes of the class. I can honestly say that I walked out of that gym with my hair stuck to my face, feeling VICTORIOUS.
I say all this to say that the next time you’re on the verge of giving up, or feel like the task ahead of you is impossible to complete (be it a gym class, or a general roadblock in life), just remember those six words and trust me, you’ll get through it.
You are stronger than you think. 😀
Ancient “secret” words … “I CAN” … as strong as “I AM” and “I WILL.” I recently had to use the “I CAN” myself, but not for the same purpose, though it did change my entire mindset. Great story! LOL @ fitness stamina of a 70 year old chain smoker … if I found that to be better than me, I can’t even imagine my true age or condition LOL.
Haha thanks for stopping by Kimba!
You are welcome! And I stop by because “I CAN.” ::giggles:: 🙂
