If Not Now, When?

All in all last year was a pretty good year for me; I secured two promotions at work, saved a decent amount of money which I’m always adding to, had an insane trip to Punjab with family and a fun holiday to Rome with friends, got addicted to The Mindy Project and Game of Thrones and made a red velvet cake from scratch (by far my biggest achievement to date) but hey, let’s not dwell on the past too  much.

Now I’m not the type of person who makes new years resolutions because I know myself a little too well for all that. So I won’t tell you that as of Jan 1st: I’m getting a new gym membership, I’m going to start my days with a morning jog and a healthy smoothie, I’ll start reading a book a month, I’ll stop wearing mismatched socks, I’ll put an end to my sarcasm… because I most certainly will not do any of those things. Sorry. At least I’m honest right? As far as I’m concerned I’m relatively happy being the version of me that I currently am (I haven’t had TOO many complaints thus far) however there is one thing that I’d like to be able to say that I’ve started to do before we get to the end of 2015… and that’s TRAVEL.

Yes! I want to broaden my horizons, go to places that I’ve never been to before, experience priceless moments in unique and beautiful settings and make memories all over the globe. Ok ok, yeah I do sound like a corny travel brochure, but I’m being deadly serious. Right now I have buckets of time, minimal responsibilities and adequate funds, so why not?! As the saying goes, I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list. A wise friend once told me that I’d be mad not to travel as much as I can while I can and although I just brushed his comment off at the time, I do believe that he was spot on. I don’t want to look back in 30 years and regret having missed the boat to explore the world…if not now, when?

Truth be told in my 22 years I’ve only been to four countries (technically two because Canada and India don’t really count when the sole purpose of ever going is to visit family!) And so in light of this burning desire of mine I’ve gone ahead and booked a couple of European trips away to start me off… and I cannot wait 😀 Plus in the dreary month of January when the holidays are over and everyone’s back to work, it’s a great feeling to know that I have something amazing to countdown and look forward to. And so grinning away at my desk I can say with certainty that 2015 will be the year that I begin my journey around the world, future globetrotter in the making at your service 🙂

  1. Congratulations on your two promotions at work! I am hoping that all of your plans turn out wonderfully. I enjoyed traveling when I was younger, wish I had less holding me back… but I love my family who is here, waiting to have someone to take with me, someday…. I love “The Mindy Project!” Mindy Kaling should be in movies, I enjoy her every bit (or more) than Melissa McCarthy…. humor plus an easy-going nature makes it enjoyable to see her in the situations she gets into. A ‘couple of European trips’ is outstanding planning on your part and a great destination to explore!

  2. I share your desire to travel! In my case it’s one of realising I’d better get started soon before I’m too old to get the zimmer frame on the the aircraft!

  3. I have decided to broaden my spectrum as well. No more house rat for me. I am taking baby steps though, don’t want to goo too far too fast. I will be going slower than you though. :))))

    1. Good for you! I think it’s good to ease yourself into it to begin with, I’m hoping to visit about 4/5 countries this year… not overly ambitious! Hope you get to see lots of lovely places this year too 🙂

  4. Sounds like a fab year you’ve had, and here’s hoping 2015 is an even better year.

For what it’s worth, I’m glad you weren’t serious about the mismatched socks resolution. Matching socks are overrated.

  5. Good luck with your plans for 2015 and congrats on the promo. I try and work on “New Year’s Objectives” where possible, even if it means ‘re-aligning’ from last year.
Look forward to more New posts.

    1. Lol travelling doesn’t require moving away from home, you can still book short breaks to different countries and cities while remaining in India. Go solo or with friends or family! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  6. I want to broaden my horizons too. Thanks for the encouragement through this post and another thanks for coming over to my blog and liking my post, New Woman 🙂
